Aims and scope
Echinox Journal is a bi-annual academic journal in comparative literature, world literature and imagination studies. It was first published by Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania, in 2001, continuing the legacy of the renowned students’ magazine Echinox, founded at the Faculty of Letters in 1968.
On the one hand, Echinox Journal carries forth the tradition of the first global journal of comparative literature, Acta Comparationis Litterarum Universarum, published by Hugo von Meltzl in Cluj (1877-1888). As such, it encourages innovative research on world literature and its contemporary domains and methodologies: cultural studies, planetarity, digital humanities, posthumanism, new media, etc.
On the other hand, being currently edited by Phantasma, the Center for Imagination Studies in Cluj, which is a member of the International network CRI2i (Centre de Recherches Internationales sur l’Imaginaire), Echinox Journal also publishes studies on the social, historical, cultural, literary, religious and artistic imaginaries. It welcomes contributions in English and French (sometimes also Italian, Spanish and German, depending on the subject) from international scholars.
